Editor’s note: I received a lovely email recently from blogger & content writer Ella Andrews who shares a passion for writing about all sorts of home remodeling, house removals and interior design related projects. Ella has some great suggestions to make packing for your next vacation a breeze. Thanks Ella!
Packing is very important to starting your vacation off right, so keep in mind that missing out on any essential items will leave you scrambling to find them at your nearest destination. Start with these tips whether you are traveling for a month or a week.
1. Rolling instead of folding
Take a page from the backpacker’s handbook.Tightly rolled clothes take up far less space than folded ones. They will also be less prone to folding creases.
2. Making your packing list
When it comes down to the actual packing, procrastination will be your enemy. Start your packing process at least a few weeks in advance of your departure date. This will give you the time to work on a complete list as well as time to pick up any additional items you may need for your vacation. Creating a complete packing list will help you to not forget anything important.
3. Know your airline baggage fees
Find out the fee policies of your chosen airline. Most airlines will allow travelers to check at least a single bag on international flights, others will charge for carry on bags and more. Take a look at the company website to see what they charge and in what circumstances. This is something you need to do no matter what, so make sure you do it before you fly. The last thing you want to do is find out you will need to pay extra without planning for it.
4. Following the 3-1-1 rule
What will happen if you don’t follow the rules of the TSA or its international equivalents? Well nothing good for starters, so make sure you follow whatever rules border authorities have or they will confiscate everything. All liquids have to be placed in small bottles (3.4 oz or smaller) and inside 1 quart Ziploc bag or equivalent and 1 bag per traveler.
It will also help if you know which items are considered gels or liquids and therefore subject to these regulations. Any food such as peanut butter, mashed potatoes, pudding as well as icing will be considered gels. Lip gloss, mascara, aerosol items and more will be classified as gels or liquids as well.
These four tips will help ensure a stress free start to your vacation. Bon voyage.
